Jon – Head Chef

Jon at Healing Manor Hotel

What is your role at Healing Manor Hotel?
“My role at Healing Manor is Head Chef of The Pig & Whistle Bar and Restaurant. I’ve been working at Healing for three months now; the best three months ever at a job.”

What is your favourite part of the job?
“I have two favourite parts of my job, really. One is developing and creating the new menus and delivering them to our guests. And the second part is how well the team all get on and are all there to help and teach each other new things.”

What is your memorable feature?
“My memorable feature would be my height – I’m quite tall – or my tattoo sleeve.”

What’s your favourite dish on the menu?
“My favourite dish is a tough one as they all are amazing but, at the moment, probably the monkfish or chicken schnitzel.”

What moment at work will you never forget?
“I’ll never forget is my first week at work, and how welcoming and respectful everyone was.”

What’s your advice to anyone thinking of working at Healing Manor?
“My advice for people thinking about working at Healing Manor is that hard work pays off. If you’re willing to put the work in the reward will be great, and make you a stronger person.”

Lorna – Breakfast Assistant

What is your role at Healing Manor Hotel?
“My role at Healing Manor is to greet everyone with a smile before the sun is even up! I look after breakfast and ensure that everyone’s day gets off to the best possible start. Breakfast is where it’s happening; everyone should come and see us!”

What is your favourite part of the job?
That’s a hard question! There are a couple. My favourite parts of the job are the lovely customers who regularly come to see us early in the morning. I also enjoy being able to get a head start on the day, early in the morning and get organised with my lovely colleagues! The team around me and my breakfast partner-in-crime make every shift at Healing Manor an absolute delight! I’m very fortunate to work with such lovely people.”

“I think everyone would recognise me by my smile and enthusiastic greeting. Maybe a slightly tired ‘my toddler has kept me up all night’ look in my eye and a bowtie that loves to tilt!”

What’s your favourite dish on the menu?
“My go-to would be any of the sandwiches and the parmesan truffle fries. Maybe that’s a simple choice but they all smell so amazing!”

What moment at work will you never forget?
“Something I never realised before working here is just how much wildlife surrounds Healing Manor. A David Attenborough moment here! Every morning the lawn is covered in tiny bunnies and deer are a regular occurrence too. Today, I even saw a woodpecker! These are amazing moments that you would never get to see working anywhere else.”

What’s your advice to anyone thinking of working at Healing Manor?
“Don’t be nervous, throw yourself in and be ready to learn. There’s so much to learn working in hospitality and such a lot of lovely people to teach it to you.”
