What better colours for an Autumn wedding than rich oranges, yellows and reds, set off by soft, silvery blue?

Amber and Joe Healing Manor Autumn Wedding

Amber and Joe’s autumn wedding was held on a bright and sunny day in October 2024, where the grounds of Healing Manor provided a gorgeous autumnal setting for the couple’s celebrations. Held in the Barn, Amber and Joe decorated their wedding with fresh pumpkins, fairy lights and rich flowers, helped by Love In The Limelight.

The couple, who are both from North Lincolnshire, wanted to marry somewhere local.

“We met working at Nando’s in Lincoln, but after talking it turned out we were both from North Lincolnshire and even went to the same school. Because Joe is a couple of years older than me, we had never met before.”

“We got engaged at Buttermere in the Lake District. Joe had always said we needed to buy a house before we could get married, and true to his word he proposed three weeks after we moved into our house.”

“We went to a few different venues and completely fell in love with the barn at Healing Manor. It was exactly what we were looking for and we felt that the atmosphere most represented what we wanted our day to be like. We love Autumn and the barn at that time of year is particularly magical.

To add to the autumn wedding magic, the couple added fresh pumpkins to the Barn and tables.

“A week before the wedding, we went pumpkin picking with family and friends at Pumpkin Bumpkins in Spridlington. We picked out around 40 pumpkins to decorate with.”

Amber did most of the planning and decorating herself and hired Love in the Limelight for the lights, arch and chair covers.

“Jess did a beautiful job of decorating the ceremony room and it matched perfectly with what I had put together for the dining room. I was lucky that a couple of my close friends had their weddings the year before and I inherited a lot of decorations from them which we were able to reuse.”

“Jess put together the arch and decorated it with flowers that matched the colour scheme so well. She also provided the fairy lights inside the venue and the festoon lights in the courtyard which, when lit up in the evening, gave everything such a lovely warm glow.”

Amber visited Bride Vibe in Ulceby where she chose her Disney Princess-style gown.

“It was the first shop I went to and the first dress I tried on. I love all things Disney and knew I wanted a dress that made me feel like a Disney princess. One of the great things about Bride Vibe is that a lot of their dresses have interchangeable sleeves, which meant I was able to customise my dress with a half-sleeve and we added a belt.”

The bride’s veil was from Ruffled Rose Veils on Etsy.

“It had tiny little beads in the shape of Mickey Mouse which I adored because it was so subtle but allowed me to have an extra sprinkle of Disney magic with me.”

Amber added white Converse and a tiara from Bridal Reloved in Caistor.

“Alison was an angel helping me choose the perfect one that would match my veil and dress. For jewellery I wore my Pandora Disney ring and a Joma Jewellery bracelet that my mum and grandma had picked out for me.”

The bride and bridesmaids’ hair and make-up was by Natalie the Makeover Fairy.

“I went for a natural look with my make-up and curls in my hair, and my bridesmaids all had up dos.”

Joe and his best man bought their suits from the Skopes outlet in Hull, and paired them with burnt yellow ties and pocket squares from Etsy, a perfect touch for the autumn wedding.

Photographing the day was Chris Waud Photography.

“Chris is such an amazing guy and gave us the most incredible photos. We chose an autumn wedding because we love the colours of the season, and Chris captured that beautifully. He was brilliant at creating a relaxed situation for our more photo-anxious guests by distracting them with funny questions and making them laugh. He has captured some of my most favourite special moments that I didn’t even know had occurred until we were looking through the photos.”

In keeping with the autumn wedding theme were the bridal bouquet and corsages, created by Mayflower and Lily.

“Emma put together the most beautiful autumnal bouquets and corsages for me and my bridal party. I wanted to have faux flowers so that I could keep them forever. Emma’s flowers are such high quality, everyone thought they were real.”

Joe and Amber wed in a civil ceremony in the Barn. The bride entered her father, following her three bridesmaids and her two siblings.

“The music was difficult to decide on because we wanted to choose something upbeat but not too fast-paced. We settled on a cover of one of my favourite Talking Heads songs, ‘This Must Be The Place’. The cover was done by another one of my favourite bands, Iron and Wine, making it a perfect folksy version to walk down the aisle to.”

“We wanted to keep the ceremony short and sweet and didn’t plan to have anything personal added to what the registrar had already prepared. The registrar noticed that we had brought photos of our cats as a way to include them in the day, and she mentioned them during the service which was a complete surprise to us and couldn’t have been more lovely!”

“It was really special to have my younger siblings be a part of the ceremony as well, with one as a witness and the other to pass us the rings.”

For the wedding breakfast, the couple opted for Healing Manor Hotel’s sharing pies option, served family-style.

“We had the Steak and Ale pie and Sausage and Onion pie along with mash, chips, veg and gravy. Our vegetarian guests had their own individual leek and mushroom pies. The pies have been talked about by our guests the most since the wedding: the food was absolutely incredible and we were told by numerous guests that it was the best wedding food they have ever had.”

“The evening buffet was also delicious and such a generous selection. All of the left-overs were kindly boxed up for us by the staff and shared out between friends and family the next day.”

The two-tier autumn wedding cake was created by Cakes by Zoe.

“We had a rich chocolate on the bottom and elderflower for the top tier. Zoe created a beautiful autumnal orange ombre effect in the buttercream icing and it was so popular, I only manage to grab one slice myself before the guests finished it off. For the cake toppers we used a Wall.E and Eve Funko Pop which I decorated by adding a little veil and flowers to Eve and a bow tie for Wall.E.”

The evening entertainment kicked off with a first dance to ‘Moonraker’ by Ben Howard, with extra fun from A Booth and Beyond.

“Ben Howard is one of Joe’s favourite artists. A few months before the wedding we heard it performed live and knew it had to be our first dance choice.”

“We had A Booth and Beyond for the evening which was so much fun. Polly brought so many fun props and our guests loved it so much. Some of my favourite memories of the evening took place in the photo booth.”

“I have lots of little favourite moments, including getting ready with my bridesmaids in the morning, sneaking off for sunset photos, Facetiming our friends in Australia who couldn’t make it to the wedding, and all the fun we had decorating the venue together with family and friends.”

Advice for other couples

“Visit the venue more than once before the big day so that you can find the best spots to have photos and make use of the grounds. Luckily our photographer had worked at Healing Manor before so knew the venue well and we took some beautiful photos in the fields behind the Manor at sunset.’
