Our historic wedding Barn lends itself so well to rustic-style weddings, and this couple combined natural wooden tones, log slices and hues of pink with greenery for a pretty September wedding.
Jess and Dayle married on 23 September 2023 in a civil ceremony in the Barn followed by a reception and garden games on the lawns. Jess was keen to have pink as a key colour for the wedding day, and worked with venue stylist Jack Loves Jill to match the pinks of her bridesmaids’ dresses and add in greenery for the elegant and rustic look.
“We added a brown tone to create a rustic look and the florist (Blooms at Borrowdale) included log slices in the centrepieces. Everything accompanied each other perfectly on the day.”
“As soon as we visited the Barn at Healing Manor Hotel we knew that was our wedding venue. We loved having everything all in one place but also having the grounds outside the barn for garden games and fresh air when guests needed it. We loved the idea of being able to have a bespoke package which tailored to our exact needs and wants.”
“We loved having the wedding all in one place and after the ceremony, the staff turned the room around to be set out for the reception. All the décor was moved to suit and was a perfect fit.”

Capturing the celebrations for Jess and Dayle was Photography by Roberta, and they chose Will Wood Productions to film the day, too.
“I met Roberta at a wedding event. She instantly made me feel at ease and explained she does natural shots. On the day we had a lot of compliments about how discrete Roberta was, and she really captured the happiness of the day.”
“We used Will for our videographer as we’d met him at a wedding we had been to. We loved how discrete he was at getting footage. He also used a drone to capture our venue. On the day we couldn’t stop laughing; I have never felt so relaxed in front of the camera.”
Dayle chose a Marc Darcy suit from Hancocks Menswear in Grimsby, whilst Jess visited Coates Couture for her Madi Lane gown.
“The detail of the dress was beautiful. The undertone of the dress was mocha and it fit in with the style of the day perfectly. I was torn between two Madi Lane dresses but this one fit me perfectly and it was just ‘the one’.”
Jess’s make-up artist was Alicia Taylor- Reese.
“I went for a natural look. Alicia did a trial for me and it was perfect first time. All the bridesmaids loved their make-up and how natural it was.”
“My hair was by Rachel Courtney. After a hair trial I ended up deciding on something different for the day. Rachel did my hair exactly how I envisioned it and did lovely up-dos for my bridesmaids.”
The delicate bridal bouquet was created by Blooms at Borrowdale.
“We have used Jo for flowers many times and love how she creates beautiful bouquets from the smallest of information. This was the one aspect of the day I did not worry about as we knew the flowers would be beautiful. We also asked Jo to do some flowers for our table centrepieces and they finished off the décor perfectly.”
After marrying in a civil ceremony in the chapel area of the barn, the couple hosted a relaxed reception kicking off with garden games on the lawns, supplied by Happycakies Venue Styling. There were also ice creams from Tuckers Ice Cream, followed by a wedding breakfast back inside.
“There was a lot of choice for the menus but we kept it simple for the mains with Fish & Chips or Beef. The full three courses went down really well with guests and we had a lot of compliments.”
The naked tiered wedding cake was created by Dayle’s mum, Rachael Austin.
“We are very grateful that she wanted to make the cake and she did two flavours: Victoria sponge and raspberry with white chocolate.”
To finish off the September wedding day, the couple danced the night away and had fun with a photobooth from Magic Images and sparklers outside.
